Ontario Town Accidentally Declares War on Itself Due to Typo
The residents of Little Maple, Ontario, woke up to shocking news this week when the town’s official website mistakenly declared a state of war—on itself.
What was meant to be a routine snowstorm warning somehow turned into a dramatic alert reading: “Effective immediately, Little Maple declares war on Little Maple. Citizens, prepare for battle!”
“I thought it was a joke,” said local resident Terry Adams. “But then I saw it on the town’s website AND the emergency phone alerts. I nearly grabbed my hockey stick for defense.”
Panic quickly turned into confusion, with some townspeople wondering if they were expected to fight their own neighbors. Others, however, fully embraced the chaos.
“We organized a snowball fight as our ‘battle strategy,’” said teenager Jake Watson. “If we’re going to war, we’re going to war the Canadian way.”
The town’s mayor, visibly embarrassed, held an emergency press conference. “Clearly, this was a typo,” he assured residents. “We meant to declare a weather emergency, not an actual war.”
Despite the correction, the town is now milking its accidental conflict for all it’s worth. “Little Maple vs. Little Maple” T-shirts are being sold, and a local café has renamed its morning special “The Ceasefire Breakfast.”
“We might not have actually gone to war,” said café owner Sheila Grant, “but at least we got a good laugh—and some great merch—out of it.”
